Making mercenaries unaffected by blacksmith upgrades ANSWERED

Post by Badnorth »

Mercenaries are too strong with blacksmith upgrades, especially when there is a comdottiero nearby...they can be an everlasting mercenary army with one condottiero and if they had blacksmith upgrades they'll be much more powerful so I suggest making mercenaries unaffected by smith upgrades.

I don't know how to say much for that, because it is a tactic that takes a long time, but another thing that I've been wondering is the age of strategy note decaying fast, from 4.5 was 4.3 and a little strange even, it should be some problem of the system you don't think?

Mercenaries are supposed to be strong. Or at least competitive, but strong for the price.
The disadvantage of paying for them constantly very quickly makes them much less cost-effective.
Condotierro was supposed to be a shift from paying all units in mercenary army to paying only one (and less), but I could not do some of my ideas.
Condotierro just got a bugfix to at least require paying him.
It's not ideal, but will have to sufficr temporarily.

As for google play store average rating - now it's 4.4
But reading some reviews I really feel like there is not much to be done to rise it.
The greatest impact on average have all those 1star reviews from people either really hating this type of games or trolls.
Stratego is trying to write to many of them in hopes it was some sort of temporary rage, but often it's just ignored.

I think once condotierro has to be payed, instead of sustaining himself eternally, then mercenaries will be in a good spot. Once you get to mid game they are out done by non-mercenary units anyway, and even now they can't do much against gunpowder tech stuff. Forcing you to pay condotierro will make it slightly more annoying. Though there will be a new problem, just use two condotierro next to each other, so they will pay each other and sustain the army eternally anyway, unless you have a solution to this already.

Though without condotierro mercenaries will be far too weak, you won't be able to produce enough couriers to sustain an army of them, and by the time you have mines going they will be outclassed by regular units. Not to mention how annoying it would be to transport endless carts along the battlefield. Overall a difficult thing to balance, maybe just giving condotierro a higher price or making him easier to kill would be the answer.

nah for me just make condottierro unaffected by that big pay mercenary so they wont pay each other and yeah transporting would be hard but that makes it balanced cause If you want an easy to train army you would have a problem with FinanceLOL and transporting of Payment and think about protecting those cargo imagine an enemy unit ransacking that cargo then he'll get alot of value from that attack

Yeah but looking at it that way, any large army should need supply trains, not just mercenaries. If condotierro didnt exist merc armies wouldnt be usable, they would only be used as cheap, strong units if you need to defend something really quickly, in other words, wasted potential

Perhaps the simple answer is to add a higher cool down to condottiero's Pay All ability. If he could only do it every 5/6/x turns he wouldn't be too OP right, even with 2 of them ?

....or could we add it into the game so that your carts or couriers could "convert" your opponents mercs, Condottiero included. Obviously higher resistance necessary for Condo.

After all, they just care about the money, monry
