I think it would be better if you could focus more on avoiding inactive players that ruin almost everygame rather than creating new units, campaings, upgrades and so forth. Of course, password has helped to allow just "friends" or active people with whom you have played with, but it's still hard to find games of more than 2 players in which there is no single inactive.
This is just my opinion, and maybe at this stage (beta) you're focused more on gameplay, units, etc. than getting new players. But I find really annoying to play games in which there is always at least 1 player that will leave and ruin the game.

Another factor to this is controlling the timer between turns. Maybe have it be able to be set by the host at a minimum of 3 hours or whatever the creator specifies. This will speed up game play but some turns will be missed during sleep hours of course which would be a problem. Just providing players with more options make them feel empowered and enjoy games more. The AI take over could be set if they miss a certain amount of turns or some other factors.
