Insects — ARCHIVED
Re: Insects
Just to be clear then, humanoid isn't the human being... If i get on the way you want, the units from Insects can be humanoid, but can't have human aspects... eg: human face (2 eyes, 1 nose, 2 ears). Arms (2 arms, 1 hand on each arm, 5 fingers on each hand and no big claws on each finger...).
But like tankhead said, beastclan looks more mystical beings, that are able not only creating society but also are able to create a culture and trade with other species...
I can't see Insects having any social interaction with non insect like beings or plants... Being hostile mostly to... Anything... So I still think both humanoid and human like insects should be in the same faction, they will have a better role at "home" than on the beast side. imo. Btw, what are your plans for them at beastclans then?

Re: Insects
Yeah, that's why I'm using the word biped, not humanoid.
I think the race starts as simply regular but slowly evolve into biped to fight better against the other races.

Re: Insects
"Insects" by itself is very generic to a faction name, can work as race but not as faction... A change on its name is not a bad idea...LordOfAles wrote: ↑Tue Aug 14, 2018 10:37 pm Can we rename this topic? They aren't just insects anymore judging from what i have seen.

Re: Insects
I say humanoid insects go with Insects, spiders can stay with Insects too, but it what your saying about beastclans having half humans, humanoid units is true then why bother having snakemen and lizerdmen be apart of scaledfolk? Are they not humanoid lizards? As for the beastclans itself you have far too many races and you should just stick the spiders in with the insects. I remember doing a project on spiders and yes they are nottrue insects but they are still classified as a part of their family just being long distant relitives.

Insectoids? Fits the definition well

Re: Insects
Yes, they will work as what human upgrades do right now. They will have others though that separate them in upgrade style e.g. Hive mind. (Don't exactly know how thats going to work but o well.)

Re: Insects
I thought they were going to be called the collective? Seems to fit considering all the bug races working together in it.

Re: Insects
Insectoids - bugs that represent human features but are they're own speciman
Insectal - Intelligent insects that learned to evolve into a major race fraction they are today
Can we have more than just bugs working together. Give more of some type of background
Collective -

Insectoids. They are less ugly than regular insects.

Re: Insects
Yea, I was trying to go for a race name that when you here the race you automatically can figure out what that race consists of.
Like insectoids, the insect part still in there
Beastclan has beast in it.

Re: Insects
Once you have figured out a name, I would suggest a race icon.

Cracrites (or centipedes) are not insects. No arachnids. But they are arthropods. But in overall look, everyone puts them all with insect because of kinship, even if being distant in the biological aspect... They all belong to the same "Invertebrate" family.
Having that said, if we would talk biologically about classification and phylogeny of each being on each phylum, we would take eons and nothing ever would be made... So for me, the insectoids would consist in basically, Invertebrates in general... And that will cover insects, arachnids and mostly, by arthropods.

Re: Insects
Insectoid seems to win, although it seems like something part of sci-fi.

Re: Insects
Well it kinda works both ways. The name insectoid just refers to bugs in general.
Re: Insects
True but it can't be help, I chose the name because it meant bugs with human like featuresGeneral Brave wrote: ↑Wed Aug 15, 2018 2:29 am Insectoid seems to win, although it seems like something part of sci-fi.

Re: Insects
So what units and buildings should the race have? Here's 2 far down the line that I decided to bring up here.

Re: Insects
Not exactly humanoid. Half human taurs only i want to see as part of beastclans (exept of dryads and centaurs which are already part of elves). If it is just humanoid than it must stay as a part of other races.

Re: Insects
Arachnids.
If u reason whit biological relatives and origin are good reasons for Sci-fi thema but this is fantasy.
I m afraid if the scifi tema Aos comes out this faction will considered a parody or a weak copy.
Its not problem that Beastclans have big variety.
That's what try to do whit every race.
Also if Ratkins are whit beast so the Arahnids should be.
Arachnids are more wildly but intelligent predators. So they don't ally with bugs they potential prey.
Are More humanish tboth mentality and aspects than insectoids.
As a lonely predator in monster caves like building. for Beastclans is perfect.
Not all Beastclans race are furry dumb predators! (hight society at lionman Thuskarrs - Pandaren, avians - even Ratkin are organised and have inventions!)
Arahnids, They have no collective hive spirits like ants for eg
Caster and cavalry role.
For compromise.
u can use spiders and colonies what work with. Weavers
Just Less human look.
Or forget it and let to scifi only.
And still have great images to help the Aos ufo/galaxies (Idk precis name)

Re: Insects
How about you take arahnids and we take colony spiders. Ares can still be humanoid/biped but not have human features, whereas yours can go ahead and be the Spider style version of the centaur. Their are spiders that live in any colony 's and we can just say the any folk who found out about them allowed them to stay in return for their assistance. I don't have to mention what happened to the nay sayers.
Also if you have any further objections remember that you have rebel or rogue lizardfolk working with the beastclans so having two archaic tribes isn't going to be anything new. But you can't have our scorpion people, they will be revamped to look more bug like them having human features.
