Re: Insects

Post by Savra »

My thoughts would be to take most those units (if not all) and add them to something like this
Buildings:
Mega:Hive
Colony
Burrow
Monastary
Nest
Spider den
Dock: pestilent pool
Wall: Web
Towers:
Swarm nest
Sentry post
Acid tower

Units:
Infantry:
Ant warrior
Hive soldier
Hive lancer
Hive Lord ( basically the Hive prince)
Hive queen (must be stronger then hive lord)
Scarab ripper
Scarab Spiker
Scarab guard
Brood guard
Wasp guard pursurer
Cavalry:
Scorpian
Hard claw scorpion
Centipede
Black scorpion
Ranged:
Hive archer
Hive acid archer
Scarab Stinger
Wasp guard striker
Siege:
Giant spider
Bael
Siege spider
Death walker
Casters:
Hive conjurer
Hive medicine doctor
Hive Defiler
Hive mystic watcher
Naval:
Leeches
giant crab
Leviathen
Transport crab
Crustle abomination

Not as fantasy.
(Resembling to insect race in Age of Ufo)

Except having the giants and the copy of basic infantry, what else could add to work well as own race and to have some originality.?
We mustn't use MTG race names!
Those were actually examples of medieval fantasy races and not name suggestions. The HIVE would probably work best for this races make unless anyone has another idea?J

Hmm well I rather like insect races and the fact that medieval fantasy ones would have the possibility of making it in I do believe I might have found my race. :)

Call them the hive or Swarm. But perhaps too cliche.

Well I can see that as being understandable, I know some people who also hate bugs too. But to me I just like playing as them in games because they somehow, no matter the difference in gameplay through different games, work well for me. I literally don't know the reason behind it nor have I really started to question it.

I thought insect type races fit both fantasy and sci fi themes

They do. I can here the buzzing of their wings as they make their way to the of fantasy, course that's not saying much because not all of them have wings.

Oh ok, and I support this race. Don't really see the problem besides I guess people having a phobia of bugs. But I'm pretty sure 2d drawings won't terribly scare anyone

There's a insect race that I like but it seems the game is abandoned.
It just like age of fantasy, except the armies can combine in 10000.

Agreed. Do the one basic bugs I made have to have a name change or should they stay the same since they are from the Hive queen side of the collective?

Let's explain my reasons.

Why I'm agains this idea.

1)Basic units to similar to existing ones
Eg. Swordman - just a bug whit a sword.
In the row from human - to Kobolds.
a Knights/cavalry.
An insect riding a beetle.
Stats - similar to current mounted. -
If comparing they will be just redesigned basic units.
May some basic can fly(terrain walk)
Need more original this race to work.

2)for insect-peoole they will lack of future units :
No Casters, few water, siege - a don't think them as great inginers.
And No Smith upgrade - if they get so that is also a copy of the way that is used by other races.
3)there are insects in fantasy but not as mainstream as others.races (not a problem)
But they are more like some monsters(eg giant spiders, centipede)

The insects way
A)a lot of cheap soilders and workers and a ruler or quinn.
B)lonely big predators
C)some tribal warriors and few special units for water, earth(under) and air.

Works on Sci-fi better as enemy race
Not enough for a competent and original race.

4)Race conflict - separating them as cobold and lizardmen -
Avoid following this way again.

5)Too similar to AOU.

The giants insects are well made and I say use them as campaign units.

And first work with the Beastclans - I think it's better idea. But also would help plan this if following the civilised and Wild giant insects line.

Remember basic infantry - and and Giant"bugs"arent enough for a race.

I'm pretty sure insects multiply quickly, so have cheap but good units as basic.

Didn't we already knock out all the main stream races besides beast clan? At this point shouldn't we start thinking of smaller races?
