Because it was no longer necessary to have special units who used grenades, as grenades advanced so anyone could use them and most men would probably carry some. Initially they were so heavy only the strongest men could throw them far enough for them to be effective.

After grenades became easier to use, grenadiers just became the more elite units, made up of physically stronger and larger soldiers

I read about it and as it turns out muskets and soldiers got better aim over time therefore getting close enough to throw grenades was no longer feasible without high casualties.
