Re: Armoured Knight / Fortress Knight / General
Hard to say. Probably spear. After all throwing axes to damage buildings can be done with axe thrower... Unless we are doing 2 types of Vanguard. (one with axe and one with spear)

Re: Armoured Knight / Fortress Knight / General
oh okie so pile up over all stats every time the stats are too far from the recent replies and this helps other forum members to read your idea and not read a whole conversation on what are the current stats. As you said they're different units I taught it was an upgrade and send the proposed imgs so itll be easily accessed these are just some tips to keep a topic more approachable specially for people that just saw your topic today.
note im writing this quickly so here comes my typo's.

Re: Armoured Knight / Fortress Knight / General
I do not understand what is happening.
I thought we'll do a vanguard and royal guard ?
Whats with the changing and bubbling of stuff ?
Rename topic to vanguard and general to avoid confusion since it is settled that those names are viable to become the unit names.
Vanguard - A unit with high defenses, fairly good attack and low speed eg. 2 : the one who focuses in defending sites and protecting those behind them rather than dealing damage to units and such. It may have a secondary ability like spear or axe throw - but not too similar to praetorian or it'll damage its uses.
Royal guard - the unit who replaces the use of spartan, having many similarities like armor, damage, heal bonus etc.

So Vanguard is like Shielder/pretorian hybrid
And Royal guard is like Spartan but more better

Re: Armoured Knight / Fortress Knight / General
so no more praetorian or shielders
and no more spartan...
and no more spartan...
Re: Armoured Knight / Fortress Knight / General
We could make vanguard a special defender that can only be trained at castles or monasteries.

Re: Armoured Knight / Fortress Knight / General
I didn't understand what endru meant but he said that royal guard will be the European version of hoplite. will it have similar stats to hoplite? But with weaker but also cheaper ?

Re: Armoured Knight / Fortress Knight / General
I was thinking cheaper but since it requires an (expensive) tech to reach it is slightly more powerful. Also, Vanguard and Royal Guard are trained from Barracks and Castle only, and General, the proposed boss unit, is trainable from Castle only.
Summary:
Vanguard: Cheaper and weaker Hoplite, Barracks and Castle trained, no upgrades from blacksmith, or level 2 armour gives +1/1, but level 1 does not, weapon upgrades level 2 gives extra power weapon upgrades level 1 doesnt
Royal Guard: Upgrade of Vanguard, expensive tech research from Barracks or Castle, Trained in Barracks or Castle, cheaper but stronger than hoplite, same blacksmith upgrades as Vanguard ( level 2 has effect, level 1 doesn't)
General: Standalone boss unit, only 1 at a time, Castle only. No blacksmith upgrades

Re: Armoured Knight / Fortress Knight / General
Vanguard: there are already weaker and cheaper hoplites, the ekdromoi which recently got implemented. Imo this should only be trained at castles so they could be separated from the existing units with similar uses. Vanguard should be in between defender and guardian but cannot receive smith upgrades since they the vanguard already have the best equipment available.ProtectorLordGarmin wrote: ↑Mon Aug 17, 2020 7:44 am Summary:

Royal guard: why cheaper and stronger than a spartan?? Royal guards were more like Elite troops or guards guarding a palace or royalties.they shouldn't be stronger than a spartan who had intense but effective training.imo They should be a separate unit. And the Vanguard were the elite troops moving in front of an army or a formation so why would they be upgraded to a royal guard? Read the link I sent .

Its still diff. Ekdromoi can run vanguard cantQuadrupoleStrat wrote: ↑Mon Aug 17, 2020 8:56 amVanguard: there are already weaker and cheaper hoplites, the ekdromoi which recently got implemented. Re: Armoured Knight / Fortress Knight / General
What he meant for royal guard was yes its stronger than a spartan and cheaper than a spartan but as he said earlier the tech cost is way more higher, maybe 12 idk. And maybe give it blacksmith lvl2 only.
Concept:
Cheap pretorian like unit but can only be upgraded by smith lvl 2 making it harder to stat up, but if youve given it enough time you can upgrade them to a really powerful unit

Nope. Historically they were made up of workmen who would clear obstacles for the army, civil officials and trumpeters, and some scouts.QuadrupoleStrat wrote: ↑Mon Aug 17, 2020 8:56 am And the Vanguard were the elite troops moving in front of an army or a formation

But why would they put workers on the front?

Make him to elite guard. Imperrial guard sounds higher ranked than royal

Elite + Royal Guard
OK so reading through all of this we now have Elite and Royal Guards, which I am just fine with. I suppose that kind of thing can work. So, all we need now is stats and balancing, right?

European version of hoplite, cheaper and weaker, is fine to me. I don't like the upgrade, or spear throwing ability. For me it doesn't fit.

Idk what we're calling it
OK how about
No spear throw
Same price
Weaker, then stronger after upgrade

Re: Armoured Knight / Fortress Knight / General
If you mean a royal guard that is a weaker hoplite then it has a upgrade that turns it slightly stronger then its fine with me .
Unit description: A Highly trained and loyal guardian of the castle who is capable at defending a site and delivering heavy blows to an enemy soldier.
Upg unit description: An upgrade of the castle Guard that is a devoted and highly trained soldier who's combat abilities surpasses even the most toughest soldiers of an army.
Trainable at castles
Castle guard --> Royal or imperial guard
Upgrade to royal guard cost: 5 researched at castles.
Cost : 5 for example
Hp: 35 - 40
Att: 11 - 13
Spd: 2 - 2
Armor: 4/4 - 5/6
Sight: 4 - 4
Spell resist : 100%
Bonuses:
+ 50% Foot melee
+100% Buildings
+150% Fortifications, Armored siege machines
+550% Mega Buildings
Categories:
Heavy foot melee, large shield bearer, European
If we have an agreement between the stats and the approval of endru I shall make an image for thr unit.

Re: Armoured Knight / Fortress Knight / General
Well the original idea was for the Castle Guard and Elite guard or whatever the hell we're calling them was to be a tougher Defender type unit.
So 2 speed, and maybe little increase in HP, maybe 35-40
4/5 armour is kinda weak compared to Hoplites.
At this rate Hoplites look still way stronger, and people look a lot more likely to use Hoplites instead.
Hell, this is my unit, and with those stats I'd probably use Hoplites instead. If we do maybe 6/6 armour, or if we let it be upgraded by blacksmith tho that would be fine.
(so either armour is 6/6, no blacksmith, or 4/5, with blacksmith, making it max 6/7)

Re: Royal Guard or something idk
I didn't say unaffected by blacksmith I just went with blank since there is still no final stats, 2spd with 35hp looks fine. So I'll change it
