The Type-85 is a modernization of the Type 80 tank. While on the Type-80 the Chinese introduced a new hull but kept the same turret, on the Type-85 they replaced the old turret, which came from the times of the old T-55, by a modified tower, more angular and less rounded more westernized like that of the M-84, which gives it the possibility in some angles to have additional armor of the explosive reactive type
