At the end of World War II the western world saw the Russian IS-3 tanks mostly in fear. The British mainly will come to the need to have a tank that could subdue Russian armor. So they'll develop a 183mm cannon and install it on the Centurion chassis because they wanted to get that gun in the field as soon as possible.
