Change "Area-Damage" Name - ANSWERED

I was thinking we should change the name of "Area-Damage" to "Greek Fire", or something like that. I think it would fit better, because we are not researching area-damage itself, but the thing that causes it. In the case of catapults it is some kind of fire.

Also, I think the catapults should throw the trebuchet rock and then throw the burning rock after research.

What do you think?

The area damage is sort of a splash effect, but the name doesn't really matter to me...as far as the projectile, the catapults only fire a single rock until the area damage research is completed, while the trebuchets simply fire a big-ass rock all the time...historically, trebuchets fired much larger projectiles than catapults and were built on-site, immobile once built, as they were massive constructs...but daniel can make them any way he wants...it's his game...either way, it's a lot of fun to play... :-)

Yes I agree with you. The catapults fire now a "burning rock" projectile. I meant that before A-D is researched I thought the catapults should fire a rock that appears like the trebuchet's (not burning). Also, historically the cause for "burning rock" that I could find was Greek Fire. Area-Damage just seemed like an ill-fitting name.

What do you think?

And in the end it is what Daniel says. :)

I never noticed the catapult's projectile flaming before the A-D research is finished...i usually skip the animations when i'm playing...but yes, i'm familiar with the "greek fire" term (i read the 'dragon-jouster'series, too...lol)...how about if he changes the name to "tear the crap out of your units"? Lol...jk :-)

Oh-ho FUNNY  :)

The only other medieval incendiary I've ever heard of is red-hot solid shot. (Used even in the "modern" Napoleonics)

Most of the 'greek fire' and similar terms refer to burning tar or pitch dug from marshes at that time...although burning oil was used for siege defense, not so much as a projectile...

Actually many historians believe that it was used encapsulated in clay or otherwise containers. You will recall that many accounts state its used from ships on water, and this would also seem to verify oil base. If we can find a better name for this tech, I am all for it.

Yes, as i said before, the name isn't really that important, is it? But if the majority agrees, i see no reason not to change the name...again, though, it's daniel's decision in the end...
