How would you equip whole unit with bamboo pavaises and not affect unit speed, nor shooting ability?
And it's clearly too strong of a bonus to be tech.
We'd get yumi archers with p.armor in skirmishers range.

well effect can be reduced to 1, instead of 2
other option is to make transformation of yumi ashigary and samurai, with the tate deployed, that would be more work for u and for drawers though

Well - did samurai class actually even use tates commonly?
Or any shields?

as far as i know samurai armour include shoulder shields, and sometimes hand shields, small to protect the hands
on the other hand a palisade was more common to cover rfom enemies arrows
soulder shields example
not sure about it but seems like samurais with tate

For me it seems like ashigarus holding shields while samurais shoot.
On the left side.
On right samurai seems to be in the back holding pole weapon.
Besides - I think I remember a statement, that huge rectangular shields were used in some battle situations, but samurai would not carry it
That would mean especially prepared unit.

Probably.
Or some idea with protective tate unit.

What about a tate ashigaru that is basically just a shielder, it will stay in front preventing skirmishers reaching the yumi samurai behind
Since the main advantage of yumi samurai is its range, tate ashigaru can complement that advantage

Seems perfectly legit.
If we make low attack or no double counter or no anti building bonuses, then it could retain speed of 3.

It could b like a weaker guerilla with 3 speed, better p.armor and bonus dmg against skirmisher and archer (with bushido aura and tell fortune spell the total dmg should b enough to one shot 2nd tier skirmisher and only 3rd tier skirmisher or one with blacksmith archer armor techs can survive with perhaps 1 or 2 hp remaining)
