Player Count: Are there still active players

Recently I noticed that most players were taking longer and longer, and chat quieter and quieter with the occasional bot like spam of gibberish.
And almost all the recognisable active players (to me) are like becoming fewer and fewer. It's nature that as time passes, players will leave, no one stays forever.
So has there been a lower influx of players population recently that has led to less of an "active" community?
Or am I just imagining it?
