I think golems should be added to dwarves as a midway unit between dwarven heavy units and defender mammoths. Lot of golem varieties that could be done with dwarves

They will be a thing but for gnomish sub.
No runes but some will be constructible.

I was thinking like rock/iron/runed(or some high tier steel/obsidian/vibranium/heated metal) golem.

No runes for them for sure.

As for types — there will be different golems:
Normal sized human shaped golems with regular weapons;
Giant golems with quite unique weapons (flamethrower arms or launching arms for example);
Different forms — human shaped, dragon shaped, centaur shaped and many more...

One of golem form idea i had for example is a taur shaped golem with upper half being in form of draconian and lower half being based on tank — wheels and such.

Not just generic, repeatable from game to game and boring "stone / iron / gold / diamond / obsidian / bedrock / «put your material here» golems".
