How do you counter elf wolf and archer spam in early game?

Elf early units are faster than undead, leading them to capture more TCs. Then they stay out of range of my units, and use archers to eliminate and wolves to block. I am not sure how to counter them. Any ideas?

PS. I'd also appreciate tips on how to counter elves when playing other races.

Undeads:
Necromancers are very tough units for casters, especially early game.
And they also have magic missiles.
Another viable option is to invest into headless horsemen since they have bonuses against both archers and animals.

In general:
Light cavalry, shielders and skirmishers along with towers to cover them are best options to deal with elves.
Also use tcs as well to cover your valuable units with fodder — you can drag units to change their order.
