I dont think ranged units should be avablie to counter attack. Mayby some types will can (axe thrower),but I dont think archer can make him self ready to shoot before warrior reach him when warrior is few steps from he. Also,when we attack strong power range unit meale (cannon,etn demolisher in AoF) it can kill our unit. It shouldnt happen becouse ranged must be weak in meale.

I don't think this is a problem. If you're getting counter-attacked by archers, you're fighting them wrong. They only have like 15 hp and a couple armor, even with max upgrades. A maceman, knight, lancer, man-at-arms, etc, should be able to one hit them easily if you can get in range.

But they will obviously fight back if you attack them with laborers or pikemen

When enemy is close, attacked archer can be angry and just beat you with his bow, or with unarmed arms like angry woman when her husband returns to home drunked xD
