The barrage balloon was literally a large ballon that looked like a blimp and was held down by a chain as it floated in the air to act as a barrage against incoming aircraft. The balloon itself was not the main threat it was The chain underneath that damaged aircraft as it was hard too see and these balloons occasionally were thought, by enemy bombers, to be great strategic places to bomb and we're struck by the chain thinking it was just a regular balloon.

So.... minefield for planes?

They look cool but practical use looks dim.

It was a quick countermeasure of german aircraft. They are pretty cheap and easy to make, so I would say these balloons are pretty practical.

However in the game it cannot be invisible, but players will instantly know to avoid them the first time they step on it.

Yep, it looks great. It says they were only useful against dive bombers though.

It can be used to prevent bomber attacks at the beginning of a game.Would be useful this way actually.
