Has a lot of pierce armour bonus against against archers weak against melee because cannot weild shield good in combat

This sounds exactly like the skirmisher, which already exists.

I beg to differ, because this would be a melee unit which the skirmisher is not.

How about this: strong vs arrow and melee (because shield would be useful) but weak against mounted (again because of the shield) with bonuses against guard towers, fortresses, castles and such (once again because of the shield).

Ok, I'll have my good friend Elvenprincess draw up a pencil sketch upon which the tile will be based. (The sketch will be informed by the picture you posted earlier.)

Ok, sorry it took so long :( . The first image that we made did not look so good - we used ghosting around the edges so that it would look good on any terrain background; we then decided to put a black outline around it like the other units. Tell me if you like it.

Double check everything and let me know what should change. If all is good( :) ), then tell me and I will send it to Daniel ( or you may if you would like). :D

very good! can you change it a bit so the unit itself (head, half body) is visible by the shield is held a little more far from its body?

:) We had the head peeking over in the original - ran out of room!! :oops: :| Do we need it? The original sample photo posted had the guy hiding behind his shield, so we did. Bad? :)

OK: See above for the quasi-original. This is a kinda-sorta fix. There is a super dark grey shadow above the shield to suggest the head peeking over.

:) Here I post this. I am not competing with Daniel's tile! I still think his looks best. I am just going to post this here to show ya'll that we DO take hints and CAN learn (and hopefully CAN get better too ;) ). Daniel you were quite right about the showing half of the person: Now we know that it is not some mysterious alien unit :) .

Hey all! :)

I vote Daniel's. :D It seems to fit with the other units stylistically better (is it the normal swordsman tile with an epic-er shield added?).

And anyway, I don't want to compete with his. So...

I am attaching 1) a version of Daniel's which I have done little to: mainly edited the weapon; and 2) a fixed of the one Elvenprincess and I drew: like removing the unsightly bump on his arm.

Patroid: You are a talented artist, I see. But why is the shield not good? I notice in the original we have the solder facing slightly towards the side (similar to a pikeman), holding the shield in a defensive posture (close to his body) but at a viewing angle where his body may be seen; in the 'redesign' we have the man facing the viewer. Both versions seem good to me (meaning: I LIKE!!! ;) ), but please spell out what you mean: why it is not good to make the shield like this, and I may end up agreeing completely with you.

We definitely need to get the shielder implemented, because I think coupled with battering rams (and maybe cover of artillery fire) these guys could be deadly in a siege attack on a fortress. :)

my only suggestion if you could change the shield image on it so it will not look like a cross that would be awesome.

other thing: stats.

what stats do you suggest to the shield man?

Patroid: Yes! Right on! It is superhard to draw a shield at that angle. But it is already drawn: Elvenprincess slaved over it :) (she is SO good). ;)

Haha

Yeah, a bit of backstory is needed I'm afraid.

When I and my friends Jim and Elvenprincess decided to make the 'Nyadhos' campaign we only created one forum account: the 'COOLguy' account (plus we also only used Jim's email [the one you have] to send all to Daniel: that way it could be superconfusing :P ). The others use the account to keep up with what's happening, and I have only posted so far.

Generally, Elvenprincess is the much more artistic (even though pixel editing is a WHOLE 'nother ball game). And I just help with the technical side of things for her tiles. Plus some advice ;) .

She'd be happy to help you in any way, but pre-warning: we SLAVE over any tiles we make and then Daniel comes along and blows it out of the water with the one he makes :( . (And he says he is low on graphic design ability :roll: :) ). If you wish, I can have her make her own account.

i am still low on abilities, i can only use the cut-n-paste option to create montages, and it looks good only because of the good source images ;)
