@samuelch's idea (slightly edited)... Imagine shroomies... But they are filled with so much gases lighter than air that they float at high altitude, even when filled with others in the basket below them! Using them as aerial scouts, myconids can get powerful recon.

Actually I read the first post again and its not supposed to, sorry.

Updated stats, decided to make it a stealth detector although idk what explanation to give.
