Not sure how best to word this but I'll try:
The basic Merlock doesn't change unit or what is being produced when upgraded.

After getting both the Elite Orc and Elite Merlock upgrade, Any Chain Fighters will become Elite, as will any currently in production. However the plain Merlocks already on the field don't get any stat change, and any in queue are still basic instead of Elite.

remember to research orcs or gobline techs as well for merlocks and merblins since they are considered subraces of orcs and goblins

My wording really wasn't ideal but I'm not sure how best to describe it. I most certainly had gotten elite orc tech as well too. (The bug is also present with Master) I'll try again:

1) start new game
2) Create Merlock, Create Chain Fighter, leave them producing in queue.
3) Research Elite Merlock and Orc tech
4) The Chain Fighters are now Elite, but plain Merlocks are still basic. Furthermore any basic Merlock in the process of being created are still basic even though the unit selection menu is now Elite.

As can be seen, I not only still have plain and elite Merlock on the field despite Master being researched, but am also still producing them.

Your right it doesn't, goblin cannon fodder is experiencing the same problem. Some Merblins as well.

I see, there must be something wrong since merlocks always worked. We should check what is the matter.

I'm experiencing some problems as well (this time with shamans). I don't know if it depends on the upgrade sequence or something else.
