Japanese mercenaries: Ronin IMPLEMENTED

A ronin (a drifter or wanderer) was a samurai without a lord or master during the feudal period (1185–1868) of Japan. A samurai became masterless upon the death of his master or after the loss of his master's favor or privilege.
According to the Bushido Shoshinshu (the "Code of the Warrior"), a samurai was supposed to commit seppuku (also harakiri, "belly cutting", a form of ritual suicide) upon the loss of his master. One who chose not to honor the code was "on his own" and was meant to suffer great shame. The undesirability of rōnin status was mainly a discrimination imposed by other samurai and by daimyō, the feudal lords.
Because the former samurai could not legally take up a new trade, or because of pride were loathe to do so, many rōnin looked for other ways to make a living with their swords. Those rōnin who desired steady, legal employment became mercenaries that guarded trade caravans, or bodyguards for wealthy merchants. Many other rōnin became criminals, operating as bandits and highwaymen, or joining organized crime in towns and cities. Rōnin were known to operate or serve as hired muscle for gangs that ran gambling rings, brothels, protection rackets, and similar activities. Many were petty thieves and muggers. The criminal segment gave the rōnin of the Edo period a persistent reputation of disgrace, with an image of being thugs, bullies, cutthroats, and wandering vagrants.

I'd really like to change the looks of this and make it a ghost of tsushima samurai.
Any hints and tips to get better at painting :?:

Ronnnn.png or Ronin 4.png would fit greatly to mercenary version of samurai/hatamoto.
Unit_ronin.png from the first post looks like samurai with naginata - I am sure there was already some old topic discussing such idea, so can be used as new unit proposed there.

Not for aos. I've already lost a track of all changes and new units in aos.

For mercenaries I commonly assign stats like : 2 turns merc is the equivalent of 2 turn unit 3rd upgrade or of 3 cost unit with long leaving time 6-8 turns.
If the stats mirror an upgrade of 3 cost unit the leaving time should be about 4.
Stats similar to 4 turn units or higher requires 3 turn cost.

Your stats would be good, but there is no need to make him stronger than hatamoto.
This stats should be between samurai and hatamoto:
24 hp
10 power
2 actions
1/0 armor
3 speed
hatamoto bonuses
and he could then have 2 turns cost and 4 leaving.

I especially would like speed to stay 3, as 4 should be reserved to units it fits more and I am even considering if hatamoto wouldn't need a change in that regard.

Stats look more balanced .
But I think no p.armor would be a disadvantage,maybe add 1 ?

I really like the third image, it's how I personally imagined a Ronin.
The first one looks a bit too Medieval European in my opinion.

You are right. The third one would fit the most as a ronin.

Mmm, I see. Let's maybe just use the current one I made as a preserved re-skin for ronin in case it looks bad in-game :)
