Since samurai's and their katana's are good against light cavalry here's the japanese equivalent of a maceman. the kanabo(weapon) here's an example of a samurai with a kanabo.

The kanabō is a spiked or studded two-handed war club used in feudal Japan by the samurai. Other related weapons of this type are the nyoibo, konsaibo, tetsubō, and ararebo. Related solid iron weapons with no spikes or studs are the kanemuchi and the aribo.The kanabo is strong enough to bend or break weaker weapons like a katana.

I usually make the make the unit sprite when endru or other forumers such as you think it is a good idea and has a chance of implementation idk about this unit but here is a sprite ( a quick edit of nodachi samurai)(feel free to edit it)

Maybe try a samurai with a tetsubo? A type of oriental warhammer

Yes its a japanese version of the maceman.
