New Celtic unit - Chieftain IMPLEMENTED

Here we go @QuadrupoleStrat, let's thrash our ideas out again :)

Chieftain - the Celts were a proud warrior race, so the tribal Chieftain was usually one of the best fighters - but even more important was his strategic ability and command skills. His mere presence was enough to inspire his men, knowing they were being well led by a capable and intelligent warrior.

(I was thinking, since the Celts have a few heavy hitters, of going down the solid defensive unit road - helmeted, mail shirt, and a bogging big shield).

Cost 6
HP 30
Attack 10
Armour 5/4
Speed 3
Resistance 100
Standard Morale Aura, +1, +1/1, range of 4 (only to Celtic units)
Affected by Warpaint and Blacksmithery
Heavy foot, Big shield bearer,
50% bonus Vs Light and Medium Foot Melee, and Archers
100% Vs structures and siege machines.
Heal Bonus x2

(too similar to huscarl...?)
Anyway, let's see what you had in mind and we'll take it from there :)

Seems op. by affected by warpaint and blacksmith but already has high amount of armor points and health. Doesn't seem too similar to huscarl. Huscarl has full counter and stuff. I'll continue tom - Sleep.

Cool, sleep well mate. BTW, I'm quite prepared to drop my idea entirely, I'm intrigued by Endru's suggestion :)

You mean chariot javelineer ?
Of course it could also be regular melee chariot with javelin throw and morale aura and promote loyalty.
All comes around the stats.

As for original idea - stats are clearly too op for a leader.
Especially defensive ones. Buffers cannot be defenders in the same time (unless something else really nerfed their use), because they boost defense of others - too hard to deal with.
And frankly if gallowglass is not enough of heavy hitter - I don't know what would be.

If you ever need someone to create a ridiculously OP unit for any reason, please let me know, I seem to have a natural talent for it

Yes, I read about that moments after putting up my idea. I like it, fits with the cultural identity of the Celts that I've been trying to stick to, and is also a unique flavour. Let's ditch my idea and roll with yours :)

They should also have movement through forest tiles right? I made it two horses since it is a leader unit. Should it have different breeds? A demoralizing aura should be also great as the ancient celts were feared by their enemies through their fighting style - Mostly naked with warpaint and black teeth.

Celtic war chariot javelineer.

Go on, let's try move this forward before the next update comes in. @QuadrupoleStrat or @Endru1241, I reckon one of you guys should have first hit at the stats (unless we want a chariot that's stronger than a panzer tank on steroids, in which case, I'm your man )

Yeah, my thoughts are that it should also have the forest movement advantage, possibly both melee and jav. I'm thinking unaffected by spacious chariots too, i think we can safely assume the Chieftain has his own chauffeur.

Image is looking good Quaddy - how much of a bogger would it be to make the horses piebald or skewbald, I reckon that would look cool. Maybe with wild flowing hair flying behind him if poss, I dunno.

I didn't do the hair because Celtic charioteer has it. Let me try the horses.
My suggestion for the stats:
Produced at : Celtic barrack (idk name)
Cost 6
HP 33
Attack 8
Rng: 4
Armour 3/2
Speed 4 (1 on wood tiles)
Abilities:
Scythe wheels
Dismiss propaganda
Promote loyalty
Aura:
High morale
Bonuses:
50% Archers, light foot melee, medium foot melee, flying.
Heal Bonus 1.5

Affected by spacious chariots, scythe wheels, war paint.

What about the stats?

The numbers look good to me. Is this a 2 action unit (asked the greedy Phoenix :D)

Are these stats with Warpaint applied? If not, I'm wondering if 40hp plus the armours might be a bit much...

I agree with you, should only be trainable at Celtic building, not sure what (if) we settled on a name for that but I think Roundhouse is the most appropriate.

It has 1 action.

Nope, Why 40? I thought warpaint only applied 4 bonus hp? Well its actions are limited due to the fact it can't go through woods tiles freely. And its not that high, Centurion and other high ranking units has more armor thus this unit isn't affected by smith upgrades.

Yes, round house seems to be the name. I forgot.

Edited  m

Warpaint is +20%, so +6.8 in this instance, - I don't know if it gets rounded up to 41. If it does get rounded up, 33hp would make a round 40 with Warpaint.

But you're right, 40hp with greater attack plus the double buff to legionaries is what the centurion has for the same cost, so we're in the same region.

Ha, you're certainly better than me at it! :)

What I didn't understand about the centurion was being produced on towns and stables. It is the only officer unit that can be produced on both of them while other officers have their own training places. And centurion was very high ranked so imo it wouldn't make much sense having them at towns and stables. :?:

Because he is very powerful,so to make a balance ia better only build on castles.

Dunno if stats feel too powerful but I reckon tis balanced as other officers. You can compare the stats to other officers e.g. Centurion, Daimyo, Condottiero, Viking Warlord to see if they are more op or not. Im against having this unit at castles. I prefer this to be only trained at Celtic roundhouse.

Keep in mind chariots has lesser speed and mobility than war horses so it is already a disadvantage when compared to other officers although this unit has a javelin which deals 8 base damage at a range of 4. Tis not op. Thus it isn't affected ( I think ) by blacksmith upgrades only warpaint.
