So this is a steampunk themed game.
Yes, steampunk. EVERYTHING STEAM ENGINES!
First lemme begin with factions ideas:
- Victorian Empire
The great Empire of Victoria is a great nation having widest utilisation of steam machineries, as well as their disciplined Imperial Regular Army.
- Germanic Kaiserdom
Germanic Kaiserdom are famous for their finest industry and innovation, and also an ambitious power seeking for conquest.
- Mediterranean Allies
An alliance composed of Western Europa nations, aimed to resist the influence from their powerful neighbors Kaiserdom and Empire. They may not have a commonly organised army, but their mercenaries are the finest veterans on the continent.
- Slavic Union
The Slavic Union lies on the vast tundras of minerals on the north - The coldness not just teach them how brutal the world is, but also standing altogether. Their machines may not have quality, but they can outnumber any of their opponents.
- Great Sultanate
The Great Sultanate is a religiously connected nation. Though they are still using the old generation machines, however, their actual strength are from their faithed, fearless warriors and cavalries.

AGE OF STEAMPUNK - UNITS
Posted: Thu Sep 17, 2020 1:35 pm
by GeneralWadaling
Very draft-like unit suggestions:
- Infantries (each faction's basic infantry are slightly different)
- Exoskeletons (actually more like powered armour)
- Airships (ZEPPLINS are the MUST)
- Walkers/Mechs
- LARGE MACHINES (Like a walking fortress for late game.)
- Landships and LAND DREADNOUGHTS (basically... Steam powered tanks, and they're multi-turret tanks)
- You know, steampunk warships.
- Tesla coils (from steampunk and dieselpunk and old-days scifi... They all exists)
- Railroad units (that must run on railroad grounds, as a special terrain)

As of now I think its better not to add more variants. AoD and AoG is uc so it is better to finish them first then adding more. Plus it takes a long time.
Ps: Nice icons but it has to be 32×32.

Meanwhile, @noaharts making a very specific game out of nowhere.
This is a nice idea but I doubt you will find many people to help you right now.

It might be good idea... Well... If you want i can send you modding version of AOG, and if you find some reason and download Total comander or another app that can change .json files, find some people and... maybe this game will be published after long time...

You can't "sent him the modded version" - only the developer can assign the rights to mod - it's linked to the account.

Those sprites are impressive! I'm pretty sure we are using most of our personnel on other tasks at this moment, so maybe in the near-future. I'm not really familiar with steampunk things, but this seems like it could go pretty far once the time is right.

Annnnnnd the first mega war machine.
This is one of the greatest mech of Mediterranean Alliance, GF-346 Joan. Yes, named after the historical hero of France.

- GF-346 Joan of Arc.png (3.12 KiB) Viewed 11792 times
GF-346 is armed with a massive main gun on the right and a massive sword on the left.
The main gun can either fire regular shells in regular combat, or launch its special highly explosive shells when ordered to.
Despite having a large size, its traveling speed is faster than others of the same class.
NOTES: IT IS NOT WOOD, IT'S BRONZE
Annnnd now I am adding a improved version of this thing

Here comes the Kaiserdom's mega machines:
Introducing the first generation of walking fortress.

- Kaiser 2500.png (2.74 KiB) Viewed 11717 times
Lotta of guns right? You can say Kaiser 2500 is a heavy multi gun platform which provides medium range fire support. With that amount of guns installed this mobile gun fort can fire deadly barrages twice in a turn.

Two more faction ideas.
- Eastern Banners
Nations of Eastern Lands, recognized the threat of Europa influence, from both sides, across the globe. Though the Eastern nations are not united at all , they understand it's time to do something as a whole.
- New World Resistance
The colonies in the New World is getting enough of being ruled by Europa powers. Instead of being slaves and peasants, now they are fighting for their own room of freedom.
Unique Features of each faction

<Victorian Empire>
What are Victorians famous for? They have the most disciplined army which has balanced offensive and defensive capabilities, and of course their airforce that must be reckoned with.
<Mediterranean Alliance>
Mediterranean Alliance does not need specific type of factory to build specific types of units. Instead, they have different Mercenary Embassies from different alliance members that each allows building a different combinations of troops.
<Germanic Kaiserdom>
They are known as one of the most industrially advanced power on Europa. They build the finest, most efficient, but expensive weapons (for mainly offensives). Besides, their innovations and specialists are capable to change the tide of war in different situations. However, their units often requires complicated technological support that rendered them unable to be deployed early as possible.
<Slavic Union>
Though not technologically advanced at all, the Slavic Union have capabilities to mass produce anything they need cheaply, thanked to their rich resource reserves in their vast homeland. They also builds some of the largest war machines in the world, though not efficient, but still terrifying.
<Great Sultanate>
As a European power that prefers traditions over technologies, they have significantly less use on the steam engines. Even if they have, they are very old models. However, their main strength comes from their braveless warriors and cavalries. Watch out for their tricks that will demoralise their enemies.
<Easternian Banners>
Offense is not their style. Instead they have impressive defensive capabilities - Not just having better fortifications, some Easternian war machines are able to entrench into positions. Besides, their units can attack for multiple times in a turn.
<New World Resistance>
The Resistance may not have advantage in toe-to-toe combats, their stealthy and guerilla tactics will post danger to any troops wandering around and any unprepared opponents. Instead of heavier armour, their core units focused on mobility and instantaneous firepower.

Sounds quite good, but I have some questions.
For Mediterranean Alliance, what kind of units set would they have and what would be their strengths/weaknesses? Thier concept generally sounds a bit complicated to balance out, even though interesting. Also what would they build in normal tcs?
For Slavic union, how exactly will their mass production work? Do they just mainly have cheap but weak units? I don't think that alone is enough for an racial charactersistic. Compered to other races, what would their efficiency to cost ratio be in specific categories?

Guys i have a suggestion. We are talking about
[*][*]
MECHS RIGHT?[/b] So its mostly metals and others is quite rigid materials. So we could actually apply a general multiplier to stats than other Ao varients. Maybe ranging to thousands. The concept of living troops can get balanced by adding exception (i suggest tinkering) towards mechs, like bonuses.
Anyone agree?

Hrmmm I guess I really have to think about it over again. I have no experience making a game but I'll try elaborate it more.
Mediterranean Alliance's units are basically divided into 4 branches:
- French Core Forces - Basically those you can train them from TCs, they are the most basic units including Foreign Legion infantries, towed guns, part of core war machines or basic vehicles and basically all navies.
- Roman Mercenaries - Anti armour units (AT hand cannon infantry, armour hunter vehicles) + advanced fire support units (high caliber artillery, heavy AA)
- Castilian Mercenaries - Specialist and advanced infantries (medics, marksman, skirmishers, exoskeleton troopers) + specialist vehicles (minelayer, repair vehicle)
- Greek Mercenaries - Assault division (trench raiders, cavalries, some main battle vehicles) + fighter aircraft (air superiority ones or fighter-bomber aircrafts, and they are all biplanes)
However not all units of a branch can be trained upon the Mercenary Embassies are built. Each branch (including the French ones) had to be upgraded independently with higher level clearance (technology). Unless it is a long war, Allied players might not able to make use of full Allied arsenal. To accommodate the needs of warfare scouting is very essential - which allowed French have the best scout units.
Hrmmmmm now I am even not sure if that's balanced...
The largest weakness being the units are ‘too specialised’.
Now about the Slavic Union. My mass production indeed means, yes, their core units, from infantries to armours, can be quickly produced but with low combat efficiency. Even their mega machines, though cheaper than other factions, however not very efficient individually compared to others.

Not just mechs, but also some tracked or wheeled vehicles. Some Slavic Union's machines are often propelled using mech legs but supported using wheels.

But can't we just draft out the basic structure and balance later

Well technically yes, tho it's good to have at least a bit of a concept ahead of time so the work later can have some guildlines.
I think the Mediterranean can be ok that way, it is a very interesting concept.
For the Slavic union, how about some means of increasing their unit count outside of tc/factories production? Like summons or smt. Cause if they're just weaker and less effective, is there really any strength to their numbers? I guess some global tech stats buffs or auras would actually make numbers quite an advantage.

Well... That means Slavic union will have very Big, low cost army with frail soldiers and fragile machines. And some GIGANT machines that also not so strong...

And i have one little quastion, as i know Steampunk is a direction in art that based on technologies that was most popular in Victorians era (steam). But what is the main book or film that gives you idea of this game?

No, I don't really have a fixed fictional reference. But basically inspired by steampunk styled arts and games I've seen so far in these years.
The recent one being They Are Billions and Frostpunk
And a kind of boring mobile game called Steampunk Game - Call of the Steam Kaiser
