Pondering Aircraft IMPLEMENTED

In WWII air superiority was often the determining factor of a battle and was pursued after. (see Battle of Britain and Battle of Java Sea.) But the air support was limited to where there were airfields or carriers. In other words, there had to be a nearby airbase to support air coverage.
So I think it would be cool to make it where planes can only go within a certain radius of an airfield or carrier. So if two airfields have overlapping ranges your planes can fly anywhere around them but cannot take off on their own where there is no airfield.
Kind of like a fuel restraint idea.
What do you guys think?

i think it would complicate the things too much.

Okay. Yes, it probably would.

Well, unless you're making world maps for battle missions, the aircraft will probably be able to reach anywhere in a given map (yes, fuel constraints are a factor)...that's why aircraft carriers were designed to begin with-to transport large numbers of aircraft within striking distance of a target...

The question is, though, is this going to be a naval combat simulator or just a pure strategy game?

...incidentally, aircraft carriers are not powerful offensive units in themselves-they're basically oversized transports-their strength lies in their cargo (the aircraft onboard)...that's why they always travel with a large offensive escort during any major combat operation (i actually was in the US Navy when i was younger...)

I think we should try to just keep it simple, to keep with the AoS theme

*K.I.S.S.* yes :D

But this topic has been resolved already.
