Well, to be truthful in game is only a generic version of unemployed varangian unit.
Those proposed are specific hellenic elite unit - equipped by and loyal to emperor of Byzantium.

Hp 》 35
Att 》15
Armour 》 0/2
Heavy 》medium
Either aoe 1 or heal bonus 1.0 would do good.

Varangian guard is mensioned the elite of bizantine empire, despite that 15 damage and an interesting proposal.

Well heavy means not large health pool but a heavy armour. 0/2 is pretty low and att 15 is well woth bonus against light foot. So elite could be medium armoured.

Yes, Heavy foot melee means heavily armoured. It can be medium foot melee.

Real armor is represented by both hp pool and armors. In game armor is just stable non-removable reduction of damage. In game armor sometimes represent e.g. great agility in melee or against projectiles, great block or parry ability.
That's why under specific conditions light infantry can have higher armor stat than e.g. medium. In game hp represents overall residence of a unit on battlefield.

How will the stats be then? Another version of Housecarl? Or a tanky spearman?
My proposition:
Varangian Guard
Produced in: Castles, Nordic hall.
Cost: 6
Hp: 27
Att: 9
Spd: 3
Armor: 4/4
Sight: 4
Heal bonus: 2.0
Mental resistance: 100%
50% Melee foot
50% Archers
120% Mounted
160% Heavy cavalry slow
220% Medium cavalry, Chariot
240% Heavy cavalry
490% Elephants
Categories:
Heavy foot melee, Pole-arm wielder, Anti-Mounted, Shield bearer, Nordic.
Affected by blacksmith upgrades.
Image in mind:
Standard Varangian with improved armor, a spear and kite shield.

Large axe? I thought a spear would be also good.
Swords should also be an option.
I don't like him having Aoe damage. Maybe single target but a lot of attack?

that's the point, not the damage, much better to do regular damage to a bunch of units, plus it comes with an excellent bonus

Well, the current image of the varangian mercenary looks like a depiction of a byzantine varangian. If someone could find a significantly different image to base this version on, I could try, but I couldn't find a unique image myself.

If this is still needed here:

Just change a detail like the axe or something.
